There is an increasing sociocultural disconnect between artisans and consumers due to which crafts are losing their relevance for the urban audience. Craftizen has been addressing this gap by focusing on design development that enhances the functionality of craft products. With our assistance, craftsperson not only get access to contemporary and utility driven designs but also to more profitable markets such as corporate houses and large institutions. An increased profit from the trade also improves the likelihood of the younger generation continuing the craft tradition. We are currently engaged with over 200 artisans, across 14 artisan groups in 8 states - Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Karnataka, Orissa, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The crafts cover a wide array of mediums such as wood, lacquer-work, hand-cut paper, fabric based products using jute, canvas, khadi, silks, block-printed material; metal – iron, brass, bell metal; applique, embroidery and patch-work; recyclable material such as cloth scraps, tailor discards and old flowers.
